Do you know what you need (and what to do if you don’t)?

May 31, 2026 | people-pleasing

While this seems like a basic question, when I ask it in session, there’s often a pause.

The clients I work with ALWAYS know what everyone around them needs.

They are experts at reading a room, a situation, and even knowing what someone wants before they may know.

I suspect many of you know what I mean.

I’ve seen it time and time again and I’ve lived it for years.

Even as someone who is super aware of my own tendency, I can get caught up in it and I realize that I’m overdoing or giving too much when I notice I’m feeling depleted, annoyed, or resentful.

But if you’ve lived your whole life caring for others, making sure other people were ok AND were praised for how good you were, then it probably feels like part of your personality. And your exhaustion feels normal, like the status quo.

I mean, I get it.. most people are tired right now and there is good reason for feeling exhausted. The world is hard right now… we are going through a (r)evolution and many people are waking up and becoming more conscious about the state of the world.

And when our general stability is affected on the outside, it makes sense it’s going to trigger unresolved issues within us.

If you constantly are making sure everything around you is ok at the expense of your physical and mental well-being, then you’ve likely learned that doing that keeps you safe in some way.

Looking inwards or paying attention to your own needs may feel foreign or turn your attention away from what’s going on around you…. if you’ve experienced early trauma, it’s not unusual to be hyper vigilant, as a way of keeping yourself safe.

Why am I bringing all this up?

Because if living this way is affecting your physical or mental health, then you can change it.

You’re invited to a FREE webinar, I’m hosting on June 9th at 7pm (replay will be available) Reclaim Yourself — for recovering people-pleasers & over givers to help you understand:

  • why constantly overgiving and people-pleasing may have become your default
  • how it can impact your home, work life, and health
  • show you how it’s possible to shift what’s at the root of your self-sacrifice so you can feel safe to show up as your full self

I hope you’ll join me!
